Can you imagine anyone systematically legislating a change in grammar to actually make the language easier? Well, the Germans have done it. Germans have just officially reformed their language. You can read about it here. The Chinese government also redid their script in the past to simplify their language. While there will always be purists who will oppose any changes to language, their protests will disappear by the next generation when children who grew up under the new rules won't know anything but the new form of the language.
