Even if they are not obese or overweight, people with big bellies may have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's. Although researchers don't know why there is an association, they speculate that it may have to do with the unique nature of abdominal fat which is wrapped around the internal organs. The good news is, this particular fat can be reduced with diet and exercise.

While compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are being touted as better for the environment because they are more energy efficient and last longer than incandescent bulbs, they also contain mercury which is toxic and could cause major environmental damage. Unfortunately, most people are unprepared to deal with the bulbs and just toss them in the trash (currently illegal only in a handful of states). Precautions need to be taken in the handling and disposal of CFLs because when they break, mercury is released into the air and the environment something highly damaging to human health and ecosystems.
Compulsive hoardingis a condition characterized by “[a]n overwhelming desire to acquire, save and compulsively collect an inordinate amount of stuff, so much stuff that it literally takes over the person’s life.” It is associated with OCD, and even depression, social phobia and ADHD, but brain scans provide further proof that it is a completely separate condition. "Hoarders were found to have lower activity in a specific part of the brain that’s involved in decision-making, focused attention and the regulation of emotion…. [P]atients with compulsive hoarding had a unique pattern of brain function abnormalities… not seen in other OCD patients, nor in the normal controls. It looks like compulsive hoarding is truly a distinctive diagnostic category.”
